Bringing art to life
An international performance artist based in movement and dance, Allegra’s current work includes performance, filmmaking, workshops, and building community around creative expression, the climate crisis, politics, and embodiment. Her artistic research on geographic intimacy and climate grief focuses on ecologically inspired dances with our changing planet.
Her insistence in bringing art to non-traditional performance spaces has made her one of the world’s first zero gravity dancers, redefining dance in freefall at 35,000 feet. She currently serves as National Coordinator for World Space Week in the USA, and encourages the production of eco-sensitive art.
Art brought to life
Some of her many performance works and collaborative projects include Google’s Artists and Machine Intelligence “we are more than the sum of all we do not yet know”, Observation and Trust with Laura Poitras, Ecosex Walking Tours at documenta14 with Annie Sprinkle, Drone Hits! with Chicks On Speed, and Stimulate Dance. She has received recognition, commissions, and artistic production grants from the Whitney Museum, Google, Inc., Schauspiel Koeln in Germany, the Contemporary Dance Association of Korea, Rothchild Family Foundation, and 4Culture among others.
Her dance, choreography, and performance studies include a variety of professional and academic venues, such as University of California at Berkeley, NYU/Tisch School of the Arts, Acogny Technique at L'Ecole des Sables in Senegal, the Centre Nacional de la Danse in France, and the Skinner Releasing Institute.
